YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
Being in the influence business I have always loved this quote, “If you think hiring professionals is expensive, try hiring amateurs.” I quit taking my car to shade tree mechanics years ago after realizing it often ended up back at the dealership to repair the repair thus sucking up all the $$ I “saved.” There is a great story of the expert called in to diagnose a problem that had shut down an entire manufacturing plant. After being there only 10 minutes he put a chalk mark on a piece of equipment and said “Look here.” They did and were able to solve the issue which had greatly eluded them. He billed them for $10k which at the time seemed outrageous. They asked for an itemized breakout since he had only been there 10 minutes. The itemized bill said, “Piece of chalk, $1. Knowing where to put the chalk mark, $9,999.
